Council
In conjunction with the Pastors & Staff and Ministries, Council makes the great majority of crucial policy decisions that maintain the vibrant congregation of Prince of Peace.
On average, Council meets on one Monday night per month, from 7:00 to 10:00 PM. There is an annual retreat on a Saturday morning during the early Spring. Members occasionally volunteer to attend other activities sponsored by the New Jersey Synod.
Its members are chosen by the Congregation, in direct voting, at the Annual Congregational Meeting in January. One position, the Youth representative, has a one-year term, while the rest have two-year terms. At its first gathering, immediately after the Annual Congregational Meeting, the Council selects its own President, Vice-President and Secretary. It is hoped that each regular Council member will be able to serve for two consecutive terms, whereas the Youth representative generally serves for the single year.
Also at this first gathering, the Council's Secretary and its regular members each choose a different Ministry to be associated with. For the remainder of their term, they will attend this Ministry's monthly meetings. This close relationship allows them to convey additional detail, as requested, either from Ministry to Council, or from Council to Ministry, beyond what can be contained in the meeting minutes.
